14 Oct Contemporary interior design for Georgian properties
When it comes to Etons of Bath helping clients renovate and rejuvenate their Georgian home interiors, we can be sure of one thing: no two Georgian interior design projects are the same.
Whilst Georgian houses are graced with symmetry at their heart, no two buildings or rooms are the same. Whether it’s Georgian fireplaces, Georgian panelling details or various plaster works, it’s all new and exciting on every project. That’s why we love and specialise in Georgian interiors. This example of contemporary interior design for a Georgian property showcases a different capability within our repertoire with classically inspired interiors with plenty of modern twists.
Whilst our clients come to us because of our Georgian interiors speciality, their ambitions, styles, tastes and lifestyles vary wildly and s0 dictate the project and how the transformation will unfold.
Overall, our clients’ Georgian interior design preferences fit into four broad styles: Warm Classic, Calm Classic, Classic Contemporary and On Trend Contemporary.
Here’s an example of a recent Classic Contemporary project in 2021 with a specific brief to blend contemporary interior design within the context of a large Georgian townhouse. The house was in a bad state of repair when we started, so almost all that you see in the images below has been researched, imagined, designed, made and installed by the team at Etons of Bath.
So, here’s a sneak preview of a couple of rooms…
Georgian Master bedroom and dressing room
Feminine bedroom design with hand made wallpaper, integrated headboard, contemporary lighting and a calm palette
Bespoke dressing room for her with contemporary pendant, brass inlays in the joinery and striking door furniture
Master bedroom seating area with contemporary lighting and furniture including a bespoke chest of drawers, all sitting comfortably with period features of a sash bay window with panelled ceiling, classic cornicing and retained picture rails.
To deliver contemporary interior design for Georgian properties you need to look at every possible element to ensure that the balance is right – the devil is in the detail…. the entire house was audited and new door furniture installed (from Joseph Giles) throughout with a contemporary look and feel on original Georgian doors
